It's a completely stupid analogy, princess. Presumably the USPS is supposed to be like the Obamacare "public option", and the private couriers are supposed to be like the eeeeevil insurance companies. If the analogy holds, then the private couriers must have existed first, and because they charged defenseless consumers way too much, Uncle Sugar rode to the rescue by creating the USPS. This offered consumers a "public option" for mail delivery that "kept the private companies honest." And there was great rejoicing throughout the land. Yay.

Oh, wait. That isn't how it happened. The USPS came first. FedEx/UPS sprang up in response to the federal government's utter ineptitude and profligacy, allowing consumers to send packages with greater reliability, speed, and economy. Tell me, genius, when your document or package absolutely positively has to be there overnight, do you drop it off at the Post Office or do you call a private courier? And before you mention USPS Priority Mail or Express Mail, can you guess who actually moves that stuff?

Furthermore, by federal statute, nobody but the USPS is permitted to deliver 1st Class Mail ... a taxpayer-funded monopoly that perennially hemorrhages money. That's not exactly a great example of a harmless, helpful, level-playing-field "public option", now is it?

Fail. Epic fail.

John, why is it so laughable that a young man attending a public University challenges an Ivy-leaguer (if you will) to a debate? Are you convinced that the man attending a public university is intellectually inferior to a man having attended an Ivy-league? The arrogance and feelings of entitlement among super-intellectuals is precisely the reason why many of them fail in the real world. As a man who has done his fair share of hiring, I can attest to the fact (and sad to say) that some of the biggest professional dissapointments came from indivuals with degrees from prestigious universities. Intellect has little to do with suceeding in life and/or if possible in a debate.

I don't give a crap if a public option runs the insurance companies out of business. Zach does not understand fundamental economic logic because he was too busy attentding frat keg parties. Without competition and or regulation, the monopolist can charge whatever they want, thus prices increase, thus we pay more. Capitalism has failed the american people and the government must step in and regulate the economy through legislation. A perfect example is the deregulation of the Credit Default Swap market and the financial disaster it has caused. Government invtervention is in the best interest of the country because american businesses are out of control increasing the gap between rich and poor exponentially, while executive performance has not matched their pay. The underlying problem is that Zach is a racist and is boiling at the fact that an intelligent black man is the leader of the free world.

I have a simple question for you, Jeff.

Obama should have reminded the student that the student is attending a PUBLIC college - and somehow the colleges Obama attended, Columbia and Harvard are private colleges that are able to compete against not only CU Boulder but all of the Public colleges out there - now how can that be?
