A thwarted assassination attempt?

... a case of President Bush inadvertently scuttling an assassination attempt against him? A Power Line reader thinks so.

That 'Power Line' reader needs to get back on his meds. This smells more of an ego battle between Chilean Security and the SS that got out of control. Having spoken with a retired SS agent here in Texas, he seems to believe the whole matter could have been cleared up in a much more professional manner had the SS agent alerted the President prior to the altercation and allowed him to exert his power.

Obviously, one does not wish to bother the most powerful man in the world with ordinary details but escalating this issue to Presidential level beforehand would have saved a lot of face down the road.

On a side note, I'm pretty impressed with how George handled the whole thing. Somewhat in the same manner a coach would handle a star player and then get on with the game.
